Lush drawings by Rachael Pease

Rachael Pease’s lush drawings are made of Indian ink and made of matte films, creating a mysterious environment for trees and plant organisms observed in reality. The artist grew up in rural Indiana, in a similar context. Her drawings are rooted in photographic collages created from the journey.
“Growing up in rural Indiana, surrounded by vast land and forests, Pease explores the nature of her work, she created ink on a matte film with Indian ink,” said Jason Vass, who recently performed a duo with Tadashi Moriyama. “Her work often starts with a tree she discovers and likes–sometimes in the woods, national parks and cities. She takes pictures from different angles, prints them and sews them together to create collages, transforming the surreal and era landscapes she observes in her daily life into landscapes that think about the barriers of nature.”
