In “The Party’s Over,” Murmur confronts the absurdity of the apocalypse—a gigantic

In a world so absurd and disastrous, might we be inclined to be cynical or flippant? For the artist collective called Murmure (formerly), both are the only options.

The couple from Caen, France, present a new series of paintings and charcoal drawings in their exhibition, The festival is overor The party is over. Through a unique sense of wit and irony, they transformed astronauts into runway models, the moon into a nuclear power plant, and birthday cakes into raging forest fires.

There may be quotidian scenes or moments of joy and frivolity, but Whispers presents an unsettling composition. Every ill-advised choice—whether baking in front of a UV screen or watching cows graze on an ice floe—becomes a spectacular confrontation with our collective obsession with consumerism, ecological destruction, and selfish gluttony.
