learning network

Jeff ultramanBig Game Hunter explains how to start networking, especially if you think you’re not good at it.

Admit it. your network is not working

Hi, I’m Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter. Sorry, I’m already dressed and ready to go out. I have to take my son to school tonight.

My wife doesn’t feel well. But I still want to take a moment to talk to you about the Internet. Now, for those of you who consider yourself shy or introverted, networking doesn’t necessarily mean walking to the front of the room and bringing up some kind of important topic.

Networking can be as simple as asking polite questions and being a good listener. Start building a relationship with someone by listening to what they have to say. You don’t really know me other than the persona you assume I am when you see me in these videos. I can’t say I’m an introvert.

I’m not. But there was a time when I had no professional relationships with people. I had to learn to reach out to people, not by being big and bold and arrogant, but by learning, listening, and connecting with people one-on-one.

I can now do it in larger groups. I can do it in front of the auditorium. I can certainly now present to larger organizations and have done so.

But for those of you who are just starting out, the ability to connect one-on-one is a form of networking that I want to encourage you to engage in. You will find that those relationships you begin to build through one-on-one contact will be very valuable to you. Additionally, they will help you practice working with more people.

Don’t worry. People have this ridiculous idea that they shouldn’t be an expert on something they didn’t do 30, 40, or 50 years ago, and within two days. You won’t become an expert.

But all you can do is start the process. It’s kind of like my video production. Two years ago, more than two years ago, I started making videos for YouTube.

I make one every day. That’s it. I now have over 9,000 videos on YouTube.

Sometimes, I do more. Sometimes, I’ll make one. Sometimes I’ll make a podcast and then record a video of the podcast, or I’ll make a video of me making the podcast and post it on YouTube.

No matter how you start your practice, start with one person. Go to an event. Take your time.

Just look at the person in the corner or the person in the middle of the room. My favorite question for people who are actively working in the middle of the room is to start by saying, Hey, I’m new to all this. How did you become so good at networking? I see you as the center of the group.

How did you become like this? Because I’m just getting started. I need to learn from people like you. They will happily tell you their stories, and you will happily sit there nodding, listening, and agreeing.

So, I’m Jeff Altman. I hope you find this helpful. If you did, go to my website TheBigGameHunter.us and explore because there is more information there for you to watch, listen to, or read that will help you find a job faster.

Also, I wanted to mention that if you are not already connected on LinkedIn, please send me a connection request at LinkedIn.com/in/TheBigGameHunter. I accept contact requests from people all over the world unless you are a recruiter or look like a scammer or spammer to me. Also, follow my company, TheBigGameHunter, Inc., on LinkedIn and you’ll receive notifications of new positions I’m hiring for, new videos, and some older videos I think are appropriate to share.

Additionally, if you would like me to view your resume and/or LinkedIn profile, I will charge a fee. It’s very cheap. However, you can order on my website TheBigGameHunter.us. Glad to help you.

Jeff Altman is here. Have a nice day. careful!
