Descending to ICA SF for Masako Miki’s otherworldly “Midnight March” new space – Huge

Masako Miki’s vibrant, playful sculptures huddled together like feathered birds, or stand up firmly on his own, come to life at the San Francisco Institute of Contemporary Art. Whether standing on your legs, sitting on the ground or hanging from the ceiling, there is a sense of movement and energy in the room, as if every featured object can slide off or roll away with the slightest provocation.
Miki’s solo exhibition Midnight parade Now open in the new exhibition space of ICA SF, The Cube, which activates a former bank building as the venue for a non-traditional exhibition demonstration. The Japanese artist sets her mixed media work in wool, bronze, wood, ink and watercolors and blends it into a dark starry sky inside, each vibrant cartoon character seems to glow.
Miki’s sculptures are largely abstract fuzzy forms, soft textures and colorful patterns that often suggest the vitality of the interior. A single eyeball in the “charming pine tree reaches the clouds” or a blue-shaped blue-shaped one on the legs of a human stretches to the floor in the “whisper of the umbrella.” We are beginning to realize that we are observed a lot.
“Midnight parade Help us understand the deeper aspects of Miki’s “other” characters and see the difference as a positive force, even if we are upset about it. ” said the exhibition statement.
The indigo sky throughout the exhibition complements Miki’s two-dimensional work, which she calls Night parade, Visitors are welcome to enter the experience environment. “I hope my work creates a sense of curiosity and compassion that enables us to unite,” the artist said.
Midnight parade Continue until December 7 in San Francisco, and you can explore more on the artist’s website and on Instagram.
