Masayoshi Hanawa’s carving creatures

Masayoshi Hanawa’s complex ceramic and resin creatures are drawn from the artist’s internal mythology. His work is full of mosaic-like details, with carefully crafted and vibrant patterns in every corner of the monster.

“As a kid, (he) lived with his mother in a very isolated house in the woods. His mother worked at night,” wrote Atsuko Barouh. To avoid fear, he attracted monsters that protected him. As an adult, he continued to paint the creatures, preferring to work on a soft cotton cloth that can be folded and carried around, and for several years he has worked in factory-making fryers. This kind of work made him transform the metal and fascinated him. ”
