Vivian Greven’s metaphorical painting

Vivian Greven’s oil and acrylic paintings, bridged Greek and Roman art, and contemporary depth and sense of space, are studies of intimacy. The artist’s color and negative space command provide tempting results, her treatment of the canvas as a film allows her characters to enter and exit the plane.

“Vivian Greven’s paintings are based on skilled drama, with various concepts of body, presence and representation, and with classical ancient concepts with the world of pop art and digital imagery,” said Kadel Willborn Gallery. “Vivian Greven’s paintings are a characteristic of our current era, shaped by the Internet and social media, thus dissolving the hierarchical structure between primitive, reproductive, and simulation. Art history and contemporary historical prototypes correspond to Green’s painting treatment of the surface.”
