Nonamey uses cardboard to recreate teenager hidden in latest installation

resident your The room seemed to have a more cohesive interest. ..?
Maybe! The girl in my room is involved in the Riot Grrl scene, a handmade punk lifestyle.
I noticed the recreation of Stereolab Peng (1992) and Franc albums (1995) around 1999? Or is it more like 2001?
I would say that before the end of the world at midnight in 2000, I would be closer to 1999.
I might be wrong, but I think more physical media then makes us worship the past more. I mean, we actually live in music. This is more of a commitment. The media occupies actual space and real estate, they are kind of roommates who are kind of decorative roommates, which reminds us of our interest and identity, what may not happen now…
There is a little difference between a closet filled with VHS tapes and a Netflix home screen. I know which one I prefer in aesthetics, but I also know what I like in practicality.
I noticed the increase in windows. I think this element is crucial to the whole work. It can only complete the corners of the world you depict, but if it represents the outside….
Thanks. This is my first time depicting the “outside” in art.
What does this particular teenager look like outside? Is the glowing light popular or is its brightness driven away vampire teenagers when no shadows are drawn?
It looks like a standard suburban grass lawn. It lacks the inspiration of the inner world the room offers.
Teenage bedrooms are usually a place of expression, without external judgment.
Is the window a means to escape to another world? At that age do you often sneak away from the window at night?
Even though I live in the woods of northern New Mexico, I do indeed sneak away at night, which is not the main location for exciting teenage holes. But I did go and see the stars.
Have you ever found a specific box or cardboard and said “I know exactly how to make it” or the other way around?
There are a lot of boxes that are possible for me. I especially like rectangular moving boxes, which make great guitar amps.
Are you listening to music you liked during this particular period during installation work like this?
I definitely listened to every album recreated in this installation. Especially many teams, soft people, demand and Bratmobile.
How far have you gone? I mean, are you a “method artist”?
Maybe! I never thought about myself, but I might also say…yes, yes.
We can no longer avoid this topic: Let’s talk about corrugated paper. How much ripples and direction does the cardboard medium factor have in your sculpture?
It plays every piece I create, especially the curved or round sculptures. I call it cardboard “honeycomb”. This is the most vulnerable direction of cardboard, and I usually use it to my advantage. I broke the cardboard spine and manipulated it into the shape I wanted. It sounds more violent than it actually is.
About five years ago, when you were part of Dosshaus, you will feature you in our printing questions when you were part of the duo. It seems that you have changed a lot since then, personally and creatively…
Yes, I started Dosshaus with my boyfriend as a teenager. It has been since then and there are some incredible creative experiences in this art collective. But as a queer and personal artist, I had to work alone.
I noticed that you have started working alone, so you use a lot of bright colors at work…
Yes, I see the rich colors of the world now, not in grayscale.
How does it work as a solo artist?
It was an incredible experience and necessary for my position in my career. This is not to say that I am not willing to cooperate on the road.
Dosshaus worked with the Compassion Records to propose 45 “records”, which are the direct price of cardboard. I admit that when we receive our fingers, I spin it and imagine what the music would sound like. Can you help me understand what might be or at least the psychological picture of the music type?
Leonard Cohen meets a New York doll. It escapes the genre’s scope.
I noticed a bunch of cafes…I believe there is a cafe in Tokyo, and now the “immersive” art venues take a very similar approach in their spaces, using lines that emphasize the corners, and it’s hard to see the influence or similarity of your work with Doss Haus in these places. How do you think about it when you see it?
I don’t feel like any grant is underway, and I do feel like it’s an appreciation of the “comic style” paintings adopted by many different artists and designers over the past few decades.
To me, aesthetics is just a part of what you are going to. Other similar works I’ve seen lack soul or personal shares…
My style is my language, and the sculpture itself is where I try poetry.
Will you focus on other rooms or time periods for your next project? Like your first minimum wage job entertainment?
I definitely will, I’m attracted to other periods, especially in the “handbook” of the first decades of the internet. There is beauty in objects like video cassettes, vinyl record players and the outstanding ephemera that are fixed to magazines. As far as my first minimum wage job is concerned, I’m not sure if digging a drain ditch on the farm is a muse’s desire. at present.
Nonamey’s installation “Teen Dream” is now unfolding in Brassworksgallery until July 6 in Portland, Oregon
