Chinese painter Fu Lei creates floating compositions in a powerful form that violates the laws of physics. The mellowness of his human character, the body of the demon po evokes the work of Flanderian Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens, while the airy plants of fauna stare at Miyazaki’s whimsical start animation. Fu Lei treats human characters like objects in still life in his work, weaving them into gorgeous arrangements of plants, animals and plants. He deliberately concealed their faces and genders to make the narrative of his work as open as possible. His upcoming performance at the Singapore Art Plural Gallery, “Dream of Desire”, investigates Lust, Vice and Humanity’s preference for redundantness.
