Should you transfer your capital to airlines and hotel partners a mile?
You have two options for redeeming a mile of capital: at a fixed value of 1 cent or transfer it to airlines and hotel partners.
If you are reluctant to search for reward availability, you find great cash transactions, or you can’t use airline miles or hotel points for travel expenses, redeem a mile at a fixed value. The process is relatively easy and does not require skipping any basketballs. Here is a step-by-step guide to redeem a mile with fixed value.
On the other hand, transferring miles and redeeming them for redemption can give you a better value than 1 cent per cent. This is especially true when you move to a partner that keeps a fixed reward chart. For example, you can easily redeem the price of 50,000 miles for over $500.

How to transfer capital to airlines and hotel partners
Using the issuer’s transfer partner can increase the value of your capital by a mile. Thankfully, the process is simple. First, head to Capital One’s website, log in and select your card. Then, click the View Rewards button.
Find the Transfer Rewards section from there.
On the next page, you will see Capital One’s airline and hotel partners. Any transfer bonuses will appear in the Featured Loyalty Program section at the top.
To begin the transfer process, click Transfer Mileage to the right of the desired airline or hotel partner. Then, you are prompted to enter a loyalty number for the program and agree to the terms before choosing how many miles to transfer.
Once the transfer is complete, you will see a “Success!” pop-up message with a confirmation code that you can save and/or print.

Things to know before transferring capital a mile
After the transfer is completed, the transfer is irreversible, so be sure to enter the exact number of miles to be transferred.
The minimum mileage you can transfer is 1,000. You can then increase the number of increments by 100. This is a nice feature, unlike other transferable point programs.
For example, transfers from Chase Ultimate Rewards must be in increments of 1,000 points. So if you need to follow your account, Capital One can be especially useful, although be sure to pay attention to the transfer ratio.
While a mile was transferred to most partners in a 1:1 ratio, some partners (ACCOR, EVA AIRWAYS and JETBLUE) had smaller ratios. You will see this during the transfer, so you will know how many points or miles you will get in exchange for a specified number of miles.

Remember that the name on your partner loyalty account must exactly match the name on your Capital One account – otherwise, you may not be able to transfer miles.
If you need to change the name, you first need to update your name on one side. Remember, this can slow down the transfer process. Having a brand new loyalty account can also extend the time it takes to complete a transfer, which is why we recommend that you sign up for a loyalty program well before deciding on a transfer.
