Look around. Are people with real power and influence in your organization the one who fills specific boxes in organization charts or other people?

obstacle. will. adversity. Elasticity. determination

I’m Jeff Altman, a big hunter. I am a career and leadership coach.

Bonnie Marcus wrote a great little article on a website called Smartbrief.com called “The Importance of Political Mastery in Leadership Success” where she talks about, frankly, how to succeed in an organization. She put forward three key points. I haven’t done videos in a long time and I just think it’s a good trigger to point to your progress.

She pointed out three things you need to pay attention to. The first is, what are the unwritten rules in an organization? After all, all companies have policies They want you to follow, but focusing on unwritten rules can help you understand the reality of workplace dynamics. It can help you define expectations for behavior and performance.

So, in unwritten rules, what is needed to succeed? You might believe this just needs to be done well. But the reality is that few companies are truly elite management, she wrote. Will surpassing performance lead to success? She recommends taking a closer look at those who do this. What does they have to do? How they communicate; the jobs they do; how they create visibility and credibility for themselves in ways that a company culture is acceptable. What behavior is acceptable and what is not.

The second thing she pointed out is who has the power and influence? Can’t you think the organization chart is accurate? If you look closely at the dynamics of your department and company, you may find that some people always empower and have no influence in leadership positions.

Is their favorite? How do you become a favorite? Are they losing influence recently? Why? Who has been affected recently? how? Who initiated the change? Does it start with senior leadership or elsewhere? Who is the change manufacturer? How do they build influence?

From salary to purpose

The third one is who can become your sponsor? Tutors are great, they can help you guide you to make good decisions and learn new things to gain more expertise in your field, but they don’t necessarily act or advocate on your behalf. This is what sponsors do – they are your spokespersons in every step and create opportunities for you to prove your value and make a strong introduction on your behalf.

So you can look at the people of power and influence, can you identify potential sponsors? Seriously, find a sponsor, not only a mentor, but your sponsor, and find more ways to see with potential sponsors.

Find out their enthusiasm and voluntary help to help their plans. Credibility and visibility over time and a sponsor relationship with trust is established. This is a great article.
