Paper Sculpture Encountering Otherworldly Events in this weird animated short film – Huge

Like any other day, the paper characters of shotaro Kitada and Hoji Tsuchiya’s new animation will change unexpectedly. Filmmakers collaborated on a music video to collaborate on the tracks of Japanese saxophonist Tamoaki Baba’s 2024 album “Prime” Electric rider.
Kitada and Tsuchiya built a world of paper-cutting and sculpture, working remotely to create experimental short films that never met in person due to their geographical distance. Tsuchiya usually uses frozen motion to provide the background, and Kitada will then bring his sculpture to life with live action techniques. The process requires some preliminary trial and error and eventually brings together through improvisation, which the artist likens to a musical jam session.
“My three-dimensional works convey a sense of ‘reality’ that paintings or computer graphics cannot be copied, but because of their awkward movements, unique scales and homogeneous worlds, they cause a sense of dissonance.”
Related scenes at the gas station, the scene where the patrol sheriff or two on the bench form a chess scene is full of nostalgia and stereotypes, but as the film continues, people begin to disappear through inexplicable phenomena. A mysterious, highly character and mysterious drink may be related to it.
Kitada said the video was shot digitally into the film to enhance the “tactile quality” of the work. In some scenes, we can see a fishing line lifting the limb, while in others, the freezing action allows the character to move on its own.
