The United States reveals new “Admiral Club Rules” lounge concept

American Airlines will open a new snap-up lounge in its busiest East Coast Hub, the operator’s first setup.

Later this summer, the Fort Worth, Texas-based airline plans to open a new lounge concept called “Provision of Admirals Club” along Hall A of Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).

It is located near the A1 gate, which will be the first permanent snatch outpost for Americans, allowing travelers to pick up quick drinks, snacks or sandwiches on their way to the door.

This is a much-needed expansion of American lounge products in the US CLT hub, with its two standard Admiral clubs often filling capacity. This is especially true of its small B-conference facilities.

In a statement revealing the snatch of facilities on Tuesday, the American said the new regulation concept was designed for “speed, simplicity and convenience.”

The renderings of the outpost shared by the operator show a carpet facility with windows overlooking the runway, high-top tables and attractions for drinks or meals. There will also be a customer service station for members who need travel assistance.

“This new concept provides our customers with the necessary respite, whether they are looking for quick snacks or helping with travel, they can find what they need in the supply of the Admiral Club lounge,” said Heather Garboden, chief account officer of the U.S., in a statement.

Growth “grab” trend

When full-service clubs are closed for renovation or construction, or when facilities reach capacity, airlines have used looting lounge locations as a comfort option for years. The Americans hired temporary station robbery or Admiral Club members in Charlotte earlier in the decade, while the largest club was built.

But lately, more and more airlines, including each of the three American airlines, are increasingly focusing on snap-up locations to offset the crowding of their main clubs.

For example, when United Airlines announced its latest club flight location at George Bush InterContinental Airport (IAH) in Houston earlier this year, TPG was there.

Similarly, a top Delta airline executive said in January that the grab handle would be a potential way for airlines to serve Sky Club members, who only need fast coffee and bites to eat instead of the real sitting-down lounge experience travelers prefer among long-sagging travelers.

As for Americans, it’s a good time for operators to reevaluate their lounge portfolio on CLT: Despite being the major airline in North Carolina hub, its two Admiral Clubs don’t match the airport’s American Express Centurion Lounge or the brand new Delta Sky Sky Club.

The provisioned outpost should at least alleviate some of the congestion at its main club locations.

How to get into the American Airlines Admiral Club

There are several new rules for accessing the U.S. through the Admirals Club location in Charlotte:

  • Have annual Admiral Club membership, including free memberships obtained by carrying Citi®/Aadvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (see Prices and Fees).
  • Become a platinum member of Aadvantage (or higher) and travel on a long international flight of the day.
  • Pay a one-day pass for $79 or $7,900 Aadvantage miles – but, for snap-up locations, this may not be the best blast for you (or miles).
