Twitch update: Vertical video and double stream

Twitch just announced some major updates at its European conference.
One is dual format streaming and vertical viewing, so streaming looks better when viewed on your phone. Streaming will be able to use both horizontal and vertical layouts and will optimize to see if someone is holding the phone.

Twitch, following the Keynote address of Twitchcon Rotterdam, announced in a blog post: “The new vertical layout makes it easier for viewers to engage in hype, giveaways and cheers and supports you by recruiting and cheering you.” “They can also customize chats to more control over the number of chats they see on the screen.”
Mixable light speed
Twitch will expand its test dual format and vertical streaming for several channels this summer later this year. It also plans to test 2K (or 1440p) streaming with a small number of channels.
Amazon’s streaming platform will also introduce features to “make sure streaming is a viable career for as many creators as possible.” These include Combos, the current monetization feature in Beta, and the talented subscription promotion for streamers leadership. Twitch is also developing a new tool to suggest clips to understand the best moments for streaming, editing rankings, and how well it can react to editing.
Twitch lags behind Tiktok and YouTube in terms of live streaming hours, so the platform may be trying to capture some of that time. We’ll see if these feature launches put Twitch on top in the next few months.
