Switzerland reveals huge new first-class “big suite” experience

When Switzerland announced its new top-notch cabin last month, it saved the final details.
The airline plans to introduce a new first-class level on the Airbus A350-900 later this year, featuring kit-style seating, in a 1-2-1 configuration: window “single suite” provides spacious private seats for a passenger, while the center “Suite” Suite Plus can be configured as two-seat seats.

On Wednesday, the airline unveiled the last detail and called it the “big suite.”
Grand Suite lets passengers book one of the Center Suite Plus and one suite on the aisle, combining it into a larger room including the aisle. It can accommodate up to three passengers.
Switzerland said in a press release announcing the product that this larger combo suite can be used as a conference room, bedroom or office. The entire space will be surrounded by nearly 6 feet of walls, just like a single suite.

“With our new Swiss first-largest suite, we will further expand our first-class service offerings, with options specifically targeting the choices of our top-notch customers who are seeking more privacy and even designing their own personal spaces on board,” said Heike Birlenbach, chief commercial officer of Switzerland in a statement.

She added: “Our large suite should give our guests their own ‘loft’ feel, and they can use the space as they wish, relax, work or enjoy the experience.”

The new product will be used on the A350 when it starts flying between Boston and Zurich in January, and Switzerland says it will continue to introduce the Grand Suite as it requires more A350S. The airline said it also plans to revamp the existing Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 with new products.
It is unclear whether large suites can be booked through points and miles, although it looks unlikely: Swiss says premium experiences can only be booked through its best-in-class telephone hotline.
