Slow Cooker Chicken Recipe
Crockpot bastard chicken The perfect meal when we approach the warm spring and summer. Not only does all the work of a slow cooker mean you don’t have to turn on the stove, but Mango Salsa screams summer with its bright and fresh flavor.
I’ve been making versions of this dish with homemade asshole sauce for years, but recently came across a packaged asshole mixture that brought you all the hard work. It is delicious, balanced, meaning you don’t have to spend time measuring a lot of personal spices.
Now, you may need to make some adjustments when making this dish, depending on the asshole seasoning you use. Start by tasting your asshole seasoning to test the spicy taste. Some seasonings are mild, some are spicy.
To make a milder seasoning, you can add some extra chili. For spicy mixtures, you may need to balance it by a little less or add more sugar.
Then, depending on your diet, you can decide whether you want to swap brown sugar (traditionally used) for honey or agave. You can also leave it out completely (Paleo, All 30 or Low Carb) as the mango salsa will give the dish some sweetness.
What is a bastard? Is it spicy?
Bastard chicken is a Caribbean dish from Jamaica and it is sweet and spicy. Traditionally it is made from a marinated marinade that contains Habanero or Scotch hood chili, brown sugar, spiced powder, citrus or pineapple juice, garlic and thyme. Some people also add cinnamon, nutmeg and other spices. Because the Havanese and Scottish Hat Chili are the hottest around, this is really spicy.
This recipe requires a traditional version of the spin and uses a mixed chicken seasoning as it is easier and less spicy. You will still get some heat depending on the spicy flavor of the seasoning mixture, but it won’t feel overwhelming. Then you will get the sweetness of brown sugar, orange juice, pineapple juice and lime juice. It was delicious.
How to serve slow cooked chicken
- With rice: Traditionally, it is placed in a large pile of steamed white or brown rice. Classic and delicious. You can also use cauliflower rice, cabbage rice or broccoli rice for easier.
- Lettuce wrap: Wrap it in a lettuce leaf or cabbage cup for a healthier dish on the plate, which is a perfect dish for hot weather.
- Bastard tacos: One of our favorite ways to enjoy this dish is the tacos. Heat some corn tortillas and chop them with asshole chicken, mango salsa and some chopped green or purple cabbage. The chicken taco bowl was delicious too.
- Nachos: If you want to get out of the box, this chicken is a killer in nachos. You can use the store-bought wet sauce sauce as the “hot sauce” and add some chopped Jack cheese to it. Trust me – it’s delicious.
- Don’t like thighs? You can definitely use chicken breast, pork tenderloin or pork shoulder in this recipe (takes 8 hours).
Can I make this asshole on the grill?
If you like the flavor of roasted asshole chicken, use the sauce as marinade in the recipe instead of boiling the chicken in the sauce. Ideally, the chicken should be marinated for at least 4 hours.
This marinade will be used for chicken breasts, thighs, chicken legs, they may be boneless or boneless. It also works with pork chops or pork tenderloin.
How to Make Homemade Bastard Seasoning
If you want to make your own asshole seasoning, it’s a great choice in the pantry. Plus, this means you can control all ingredients and spices. Asshole seasoning has a lot of spices, but you probably already have most of them at home.
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons dried thyme
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon chili
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- Mix together and store in an airtight container.
- Note: This bastard seasoning is not very spicy. If you want some heat, look for dry jalapeno, dried habanero chili or Habanero powder. I prefer chili powder because it overwhelms other spices.

Here are some of the things I used to help prepare this recipe:
- Slow Cooker: There are many different slow cookers on the market, but I personally use this pan that allows me to brown, grill or sauté in the same pot. Also, I found that the cooking temperature was indeed uniform and consistent.
- Asshole Seasoning: There are many different seasonings on the market, but I can usually make this dry rub or this seasoning, and it can also be used in recipes. Most supermarkets come with at least one asshole seasoning.
