Americans add new rare Boston routes to cut in Miami

American Airlines is adding a rare non-Dutch route.
The airline will appear for the first time in the Cirium program, which was later confirmed by an operator spokesperson, which will increase service between Boston and Buffalo.
The new 396-mile route will take off on March 8, 2026 and run up to three times a day. The United States last operated the route in July 2017.
Bargain: When is the best time to book the cheapest flights?
American Eagle subsidiary Envoy Air and Republic Airways will run the new route using Embraer E175 aircraft, featuring 12 first class seats, 20 rental premium main cabin extra seats and 44 standard economy seats.
Although new domestic routes are common for Americans, operators do not often add services between the two non-flight airports. However, the move can be seen as a competitive jab at JetBlue, which has monopolized the route since August 2023 when Delta exited the market.

Delta and JetBlue are competing for dominance in Boston, so it is especially interesting to see Americans come in and start the route. Most aviation observers may want Delta to return to the market.
That being said, the United States and JetBlue are indeed part of the Northeast Alliance of Boston and New York that has been lost between 2021 and 2023. As part of the collaboration, airlines coordinate timelines and provide reciprocal loyalty to flyers. Now, the alliance has ended due to antitrust attention, and the two carriers have recompeted the country.
Data from the Ministry of Transportation analyzed by Cirium shows that JetBlue loads 183 passengers on the route on average for a total of $178 per day.
Elsewhere, the U.S. is cutting services from Miami to Sacramento. The route was launched in December 2023 and will now stop flying on January 5, 2026.
The United States has already set out the route as part of Miami’s domestic expansion, including even another new flight to Portland, Oregon.
It seems that Sacramento is not as profitable as the United States hopes. Looking ahead, the United States will continue to fly from Charlotte, Dallas-Worth, Los Angeles and Phoenix to Sacramento.
