In poker, it is called “telling.” In job search, this is how you signal at less speed.

Strict truth about your work – it has a ceiling

I’m Jeff Altman, a big hunter. I do one-on-one coaching, job search coaching, leadership coaching, and career coaching. I help people in the organization be more effective.

I think today I’ll do a video about how people put their hands out of salary negotiations or any negotiations. This is not your words, but your actions. This is a little thing about how you express yourself.

Now, I have been working in executive recruitment for more than 40 years. I filled 1,200 times plus full-time positions plus consulting tasks before transitioning to coaching. When I talk to people, when I interview people and talk to them about their salary. . . Now, I’m in a state where you can ask for your current salary at that time.

So I’ll talk to them about salary and I ask them how much money they’re making at the moment. They will tell me. Then when we arrive to say what you say, you say the Rock Base salary does not include the bonus, and you will find that joining the company staff is acceptable? This is where the story is told.

Tell them that they don’t really know and can spend less money. And, you’ll hear them pause for a second, yes, they’ll sigh or have some other signal, basically saying, I’ve never really thought about it before. And I’m just going to pull it out of the thin air and give you an answer.

These pauses, hesitation, pain, as some people have told you, but I’m willing to be flexible for it, and it’s a clear signal that you don’t know how you answer this question. So you have empowered yourself. Now, this is the beginning of the interview.

When the numbers come out, we are not talking about the ending. We are talking about how the negotiations are going on in the process and you are not ready for it yet. So I just want to say to you that when you think about preparing for an interview, it’s not just about answering the questions correctly.

It’s also about looking at how you will answer salary questions so that when answering these questions, you must be prepared to be confident and certain, just like any other question you ask for in the interview. So if you want to answer, please let me know yourself and you are leaving and you are overventing when you answer the question. And you’ve already had these sighs.

Do you look confident? Did you look like an expert at the time? Or do you seem less than this? Maybe polite there. In salary negotiations, negotiations begin with interviews and even before. When they have the first conversation or the first message to you, they are evaluating, evaluating and negotiating to try to see if you do it with less speed.

So recognize these things and be prepared to answer questions about compensation through certainty and power. For example, if someone says, how many are you looking for? Well, at this point, that’s a little bit. Obviously, I’m looking for an increase, but I’m trying to understand my value in the market.

Like, I have several companies talking to me about the positions I want to pay for. I’m not sure that’s the correct number. And pay attention to how your job pushes the answers away, but try to make the stadium feel like you talk to the company without having to be specific.

Therefore, do not state it. Don’t give them an answer, that means you are not prepared. Because once you do that, they know that when they are an amateur and have real negotiations, they keep you defensive.

That’s where you send the signal that you’re amateur about these things. I’m Jeff Altman. If you need help during the search process and need to do any search aspect and want to provide a coach for this, please contact me at linkedin.com/in/thebiggamehunter.
