Breeze’s Great West Coast expansion target cuts Avelo route

Breeze Airways announced a major expansion on Thursday to serve five new cities and launch seven new routes.
The airline will begin flying to Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) in California and California Redwood Coast-Humbert County Airport (ACV); Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) near Bend and Eugene Airport (EUG), Oregon; Tri-City Airport (PSC) in Pasco, Washington. Services in the new city will begin in March 2026.
“As the West Coast expands its reach connect travelers to our wider national network, Breeze’s services will bring more options and convenience to these underserved communities,” said David Neeleman, Breeze founder and CEO, in a statement.

The timing of Thursday’s announcement is worth noting: Competitor Avelo Aiver Airlines has just announced plans to terminate the West Coast and will completely withdraw from some markets Breeze plans to enter, including Burbank, Eugene, Egemond, Redmond, Redwood Coast-Hambot County and Tri-city.
Avelo has been struggling in recent months, even though Breeze’s first lucrative quarter since its launch in 2021.
It is not clear whether Breeze intentionally exploited Avelo’s exit, or the timing of the announcement was a coincidence.

The airline’s press release announced a new route, and also indicated that Avelo’s network had caught Breeze’s attention.

All new routes will be operated by Breeze’s new Airbus A220-300 jets, which offer Wi-Fi and first-class seats.
Breeze uses a point-to-point operational model, which is designed to operate uninterrupted flights between smaller markets without direct air connections. The airline started in 2021, and in less than two hours of short flight, a fleet of English-car jets rented from Asul Embraer before building a brand new Airbus A220 jet fleet.
The airline has been expanding rapidly since its launch. In 2024 alone, Breeze added 29 cities and 88 routes.
