Dyson announced its latest Airwrap announcement that it will raise bars (and prices).

The brand’s latest multi-model rider is officially called the Dyson Airwrap Co-Anda 2X 2X, and comes with a new electric motor and two new accessories that automatically adjust the speed and heat settings on the tool (unlike the Supersonic Nural). This updated technology does have a higher price of $699.99 – a $100 upgrade over all previous Airwrap models, including last year’s Airwrap ID. As of July 8, models are available for purchases in two colors and two configurations: Jasper Plum and Ceramic Pink for curls + coily + Coily and Straight + Wavey Hair.

With Mashable’s shopping reporter on Dyson Beauty Beat, I’ve been testing and following Dyson’s Airwrap lineup (and many of the crooks it inspired). Although I don’t have 2xx in my hands yet, I want to break down all the upgrades for the latest installment of this multi-model driver.

Brand new motor

Dyson claims that this AIWRAP can provide twice the air pressure (and therefore its name is 2 times) thanks to its Hyperdymium 2 motor, with 30% more power than previous AirWraps. In theory, this should result in at least faster drying and styling.

I tried 6 Dyson Supersonic Scammers, which are actually worth the hype

While I can see more powerful air flow creates more learning curves, especially in styling, relying on more air instead of heat for styling may have some potential for hair health. That said, some users (myself included) find it difficult to keep curls with past Airwrap models, and Heat helps with style retention – so this may not be curable.

For those more generally concerned about heat damage, Dyson includes smart sensors found on earlier Airwraps that monitor temperatures to ensure that it cannot easily cause damage.

New Airwrap attachments

Like Airwrap ID, the Co-anda 2X comes with two versions: one for straight, wavy hair and one for curly and furry hair. Like every previous Airwrap, the multi-shaped rebar comes with six accessories. The lineup of each product is as follows (new design bold):

Direct/fluctuating empty white twenty times attachment

  • 30mm Twenty times 2x Curly Barrel

  • 40mm two and 2x curly bucket

  • 2 times round brush

  • 2 times fast dryer

  • 2 times the reverse sharp ring

  • AirSmooth 2X Accessories

Curly/coily airwrap co-anda 2x attachment

  • Wave + Curl Diffuser 2x

  • 40mm two and 2x curly bucket

  • 2 times round brush

  • 2 times fast dryer

  • 2 times the reverse sharp ring

  • 2 times tension comb

Straight/wave models all come with new accessories, reverse nail ring brush and Airsmooth 2x brush. According to Dyson, the Airsmooth attachment “smooth and straighten with high-speed airflow and automatic release arms.” With this description, I think this is better for already straighter hair.

The curly/coily air conditioner also dropped a 30mm coanda curly bucket from its list, replacing it with a tension comb and a wave+ curly diffuser and replacing it.

Attachments found on both models, the anti-nag loop brush is actually upgraded from the smooth brush in the last-generation Airwrap lineup and features new curved bristles that improve control (and reduce pull and grab).

Multi-style riders will also be compatible with the ID curl function on the Mydyson application. Essentially, after answering the hair profile questionnaire, the app recommends style suggestions. According to Dyson, the entire Airwrap itself is also smaller and lighter.

Higher price

Back in 2018, Airwrap’s first iteration sold for $500. Then, the next generation will cost $600. Airwrap ID broke the cycle last year and was also released for $600, but the Co-Anda 2X brought Airwrap back on track.

In short, it’s a lot of money. It’s $50 more than the Dyson’s laser-powered V12 vacuum, twice the price of the Shark’s elastic style, and twice the price of the T3’s multi-style Aire 360, and it’s a top-notch machine in terms of specifications and prices.

For anyone looking for a cheap option that still exists in the Dyson ecosystem, the 2022-Release Airwrap does sell for $100 off and enjoy some regularity, reducing it to $499.99, down from the Co-Anda 2X AirWrap.
