Chase adds self-service credit limit transfer tool

Chase has just introduced a new self-service option that allows cardholders to save time. Now you can move credit limits online – no need to make calls or secure messages.

This feature appears to be launched in the past week and may be in Beta mode. However, it has useful implications for those who optimize their credit strategies.

The news was first frequently reported by Miler.

what’s new?

Previously, you needed to call Chase or send a secure message to transfer credit between cards. Now you can do it yourself with your online account or the Chase app.

Also, some users (but not all, including me) can navigate to:

  • On the desktop: Go to the card, then “More”, then “Mobile Credit Line”.
  • In application: Go to the card, then “Manage Account”, and then “Mobile Credit Line”.

Who is eligible (who is not)?

This tool is not available to everyone. There are some limitations:

  • You can only move credit between the same type of cards – individual or business of the business. You cannot transfer credit between your personal card and business card.
  • In many cases, the “donation card” (the donation card you are transferring from your credit” must be at least one year old.
  • You must limit the minimum credit limit per card, which will vary by product. My Chase Freedom Infinity® (see Rates and Fees) has a minimum credit limit of only $600, while my IHG One Reward Traveler Credit Card (see Rates and Fees) has a minimum credit limit of $2,000.
  • You can usually make up to two or three transfers every 30 days.
  • You can move credit in increments of $100.

If you receive the error message “No card can now move the credit limit”, this may mean that one or more cards are too new and you have reached the 30-day transfer limit, or you do not have enough credit to move.

Why this matters

This is not just a convenience, it is a strategic tool that allows you to:

  • Keep credit consistent with actual expenditure: Move your credit from cards you swipe or use for large purchases every day.
  • Maximize 0% annual percentage or my chase plan offers: Increase restrictions on the Chase Chase program that can offer 0% introductory APR or zero-fee Chase program to increase your interest-free purchasing power.
  • Prepare the new Chase Card App: If your application is pending (probably due to touching your total credit limit), first merge some of your credit banks into an existing card. Then, in the reconsider call, you already know which card to get from – saving time and possibly increasing approval odds.
  • Please lower the limit before closing the card: If you plan to close the card, first move most of your credit limit to another open card. This can retain your available credit and will reduce your credit utilization.
  • Improve your credit utilization: More strategic credit on your card can improve your credit score.
  • Skip the customer service phone number: No message chase or wait – Self-service tools allow you to make changes online or in the app immediately.

My experience using it

I wish I knew about this feature a few weeks ago. Due to the IRS, I paid $5,500 in self-employment tax and I paid with my Hyatt Credit Card (see rates and fees).

However, the credit line for this card is $5,000, which means I have to pay $4,750 first (not wanting to completely maximize my credit line). Then I had to wait one to three business days before I could post the transaction, pay off the card, and pay $500 for the second time.

Today, I doubled my credit line to $10,000 by transferring $2,500 from IHG Traveler and ChaseFreedom®* cards.

Looking ahead, I will be able to pay a bigger tax bill in one transaction instead of allocating it.

What is chasing the cardholder saying

REDDIT users’ R/Credit Cards and frequently Miller’s commenters mainly praise this change:

  • “I see it works on all personal cards. Just improve credit. Fast and smooth.” – u/jamesdmo

Others have noticed some quirks – mainly about which cards are eligible:

Bottom line

This new feature provides more control, flexibility and strategic choices for chasing cardholders – whether you are optimizing for credit scores, interest-free financing, or new card approvals.

This is a subtle change, but there are big changes. If you manage your credit portfolio seriously, this is a tool worth exploring.
