How to pay for my IHG Prime Card every year

An IHG reward for Prime Credit Card (see rates and fees) currently has a limited welcome offer that costs $5,000 for purchases in the first three months after the account is opened. Each of the five nights has validity for hotel accommodation in one night, with redemption levels up to 60,000 p.m., so this welcome offer is a compelling reason to get the card right away.
According to TPG’s June 2025 valuation, the welcome report is worth up to $1,500.
Even if you get a welcome offer, the IHG Prime Minister’s Card pays for yourself every year.
It offers a range of useful benefits such as automatic Platinum Elite Status, free every fourth night when you redeem IHG points for four or more, and stays for $50 per calendar year.
However, one benefit is far higher than the rest and effectively covers the card’s annual fee: Account Anniversary Night Certificate. Let’s dive.
IHG Anniversary Night Certificate
Every year on your account anniversary, IHG One Rewards Premier receives a certificate to enjoy a one-night stay of 40,000 points or less.
TPG’s June 2025 valuation sets the value of 40,000 IHG points at $200, more than double the IHG IHG One Rewards Premier $99 annual fee. Therefore, you should easily get enough value to pay for your annual anniversary certificate to pay for your card’s annual fee.
One of my favorite hotels to use the IHG anniversary certificate is Kimpton de Witt in Amsterdam. During the shoulders and during the low season, you often find reward nights available for booking around 40,000. For example, to stay on January 19, I can redeemed for 39,000 points or pay $259 for a reservation until the day before my stay, I can cancel for free.
Of course, there are many other ways you can use the IHG anniversary certificate. No matter how you use it, you get at least $99 for value. If you can’t find anything within the 40,000 point limit, you can also add points to more expensive properties to use the anniversary night certificate for the more expensive property.

Bottom line
I love my IHG one of the rewards Prime Ministers because of its ongoing benefits. But anniversary night alone becomes a winning option. Even if you don’t maximize your anniversary certificate, using it in an IHG property can easily bring you more value than the card’s annual fee.
