New Oneworld route: Finnair adds uninterrupted flights between Toronto and Helsinki

Next year, Finnair plans to restart flights to Canada for the first time in a decade, making it easier to reach what is known as the happiest country in the world.

Starting May 4, 2026, the airline will once again plan to fly between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Helsinki Airport (HEL) (HEL), three flights a week in the summer, shared by Finnair with TPG. These flights will operate on airline Airbus A330 aircraft and will be integrated with Business Class, Advanced Economy and Economic Seats.

When it is launched, the new route will mark Finnair’s first flight to Canada since 2015, which will represent the only direct link between the two countries.

“Canada is quickly becoming one of the most popular long-distance destinations for Europeans, and Nordics are also rising among North American travelers, so we are confident that this route will prove that this route is hit with transatlantic business and leisure travelers,” said Javier Roig Sanchez, general manager of North America, among North American general manager. He added that the route “signs our commitment to the North American market and how important this is to the Finnair business.”

The new route will run on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday according to the following schedule:

  • From Toronto to Helsinki to leave at 11:40 ET and arrives in Finland at 2:45 pm the next day
  • Depart from Helsinki to Toronto at 4:50 pm local time and arrive in Canada at 6:35 pm ET

Since Finnair is a member of OneWorld Alliance, the new flight will make it easier for travelers to make money and redeem Aadvantage miles when traveling to Europe. The route will also make it easier to earn and redeem Avios after Finnair decided to adopt the popular system’s Finnair Plus Pluralty program. It joins major airlines using loyalty currencies British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Qatar Airways.

Another option for frequent flyers to make money and burn on new routes comes from Alaska Airlines, Oneworld’s latest addition in North America.

In addition to Toronto, Finnair offers direct flights from several other U.S. cities to Helsinki: Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York City, Miami and Seattle. Starting from Helsinki, travelers can connect to dozens of other European cities, with flights specifically opposite to North American routes for easy connection.
