Jeff Altman, the big game hunter explained the interviewer and said, “Oh my goodness, you don’t seem to have a lot of experience…”
Have you fired someone?
Today, I’m going to talk to you about one of the tough interview questions that are designed to really save you. Basically, it’s a statement, not a question. Like they stare at your resume, they look serious, they are gone, my goodness, you don’t seem to have a lot of experience.
Now, if this is a specific, such as a technical background or some aspect of accounting and engineering, you can hit the Grand Slam. On a tennis court, if you hit the top of your head and you just beat your opponent in the hit, there is no revenge and no response. This is really what they beg for you at this point.
If you go, that’s true, I really don’t have a lot of experience. Well, basically, you just shoot in the foot and you can kiss and interview goodbye. You didn’t get the job.
Like I did an earlier video about two dirty words during an interview, like two dirty words in a job search and job interview. And those two dirty words were the only ones I did, otherwise I only did, just like I had a relaxed experience with it because it said, I knew nothing about it. Can we keep doing other things? Here, they offer you the opportunity.
accept. Tell them exactly what you know, what you do, why you declare the experience. So, for example, I’ll use an IT example.
Heck, you don’t seem to have a lot of experience with C Sharp. It doesn’t matter what technology is. It just doesn’t seem to have a lot of experience.
Now, at this point, you talk about how to train in C Sharp, and in previous work you worked with C Sharp, working very closely with the manager you reported, so you gained very good insights. So even if the experience in this technology is not ten years, you have a good foundation and good experience. You talk to them about what you do, Yada, Yada, Yada.
If you are in accounting, you talk about how to work with your manager for certain features and be able to deliver things on time and within budget. And, yes, you get some support, but that’s not a lot of support. So basically, what you are doing is taking this opportunity to talk about your training, talk about your experiences, be confident and be sure of what you do, watch them in your eyes, instead of backing off, just hit that overhead and win that.
