“Chimera” by artist Erin Milez

A new Pittsburgh-born painting (formerly here) born by Seattle-based artist Erin Milez. Recently exhibited at Monya Rowe Gallery, Milez’s latest work continues to study motherhood and the complex physical and psychological changes that accompany it. Mills compares his own sense of deformation to writer Lucy Jones’ concept of “chimera” StimulateThis explores the idea that maternity and pregnancy fundamentally change their identities so that they are no longer “strange”. Tetsuya Ishida’s work similarly addresses the dehumanized transformation of labor tasks, while Amy Adams’ role nightclub Literally, it becomes a dog based on creation and mother’s needs.

In Millers’ paintings, the labor of parenting is shown in a way that emphasizes the vastness and monsters of family life. Although contradictory and confusing, these images also convey a sense of intimacy. In recognition of recognition, there is something reassuring that raising a child perfectly or gracefully is nothing more than a chimeric dream.
