Yael Martínez’s piercing photos illuminate the daily rupture of system violence – huge
Located on the South Pacific coast, Guerrero, Mexico is home to Acapulco’s popular tourist destination. It is also one of the most violent regions in the United States, and one of the six states that account for nearly half of the country’s total murders.
For artist and photographer Yael Martínez, the reality of organized crime becomes even more obvious when three of his family members disappear. He began talking to others in his community who experienced similar trauma and linked the threads of the Mexican border to Honduras, Brazil and the United States.
