Delta offers a variety of card options, but the Delta Skymiles Gold American Express card is probably the best choice for the occasional Delta Flyer.
It offers many privileges, especially given the annual introductory $0 for the first year, with an annual fee of $150 thereafter (see rates and fees).

During the first six months of card membership, new Delta Gold Amex Card members can earn 80,000 miles of high bonus miles after spending $3,000 in eligible purchases. This offer ends on July 16.

If you are a big fan of the Delta and a high-person creator, you can get up to $200 in a Delta Flight Credit after spending $10,000 in a calendar year.

Earn miles on Delta Skymiles Gold Amex
With Delta Gold Amex, you will get Delta Skymiles on purchases charged on your card, like so:
- Each dollar spent 2 miles on purchases made directly with Delta
- Dining 2 miles per dollar at restaurants around the world, including takeout and delivery in the United States
- Spend 2 miles per dollar in a US supermarket
- 1 mile per dollar for other qualified purchases
According to TPG’s June 2025 Delta Miles valuation, you will receive qualified Delta purchases with an effective return of 2.5% in restaurants worldwide (including US takeout and delivery) and US supermarket purchases, while other purchases have 1.25%.
This is not bad, but not good, considering that this card costs $150 per year after the first year.

Redemption miles on Delta Skymiles Gold Amex
The most obvious way to redeem Delta Skymiles is to book reward flights on Delta and its partners. As the Delta uses a dynamic reward pricing system, redemption rates continue to fluctuate. This means you can’t actually really aim for a certain miles to book a specific reward.
That said, the Delta Skymiles program still has some sweet spots.
For example, one of the best ways to redeem Skymiles in Delta is to book Skymiles deals. Delta often has mileage sales, economic poor, and even Delta One reward flights.
You can also redeem Delta Skymiles to take Delta partner airlines, including France Airant Alliance partners such as France and non-partner partners such as Korean Air and WestJet.

If your primary motivation is your primary motivation, get the first check bag and priority boarding for free, and the Delta Gold Amex might be the best choice for you. However, if you have a different goal, another card might be better.
