Marriott announces termination of partnership with Sonder Park

In a surprise press release issued on November 9, 2026, Marriott announced the termination of its agreement and partnership with Sonder, an apartment-style lodging and boutique hotel group.

The press release said the licensing agreement between the two hotel companies “is no longer valid due to Sonder O’s default.” This means that Sonder Hotels will no longer be affiliated with Marriott and Sonder Hotels will not be able to be booked through Marriott, which of course means that you will no longer be able to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for Sonder Hotels.

Without more information, it’s difficult to say at this time what the exact reason for the termination was.

Marriott’s press release goes on to say that the company will prioritize support for guests currently staying at Sonder hotels as well as guests who booked a Sonder stay through Marriott. “Marriott will contact guests who booked directly through Marriott channels, including marriott.com, the Marriott Bonvoy app and Marriott Global Reservations Center, to assist with their booking and booking needs,” the release said.

For travelers who booked through a third-party travel agency, it is best to contact the booking agency directly.

As a review, Sonder offers short-term apartment-style rentals and boutique hotels at affordable prices in over 35 cities. In 2024, Marriott announced a partnership with Sonder, and in early 2025, Sonder hotels began to be integrated into the Marriott Bonvoy ecosystem, although we are told that full integration of Sonder will be completed later in 2025. When booking through the Sonder website, guests can earn Marriott Bonvoy Points, Elite Stay Points and Rewards Points by adding their Marriott Bonvoy number to their reservation.

In the current hospitality environment, most of the news we hear is about brands forming new partnerships and launching new brands, but it’s surprising that this event has ended so abruptly—and disappointing that there’s one less way to use Bonvoy points to book affordable accommodations in cities around the world.

TPG’s Katie Genter just completed a stay at the Sonder Hotel, which she booked using Marriott Bonvoy points. “On November 6, I checked out of seven nights at the Park House Hotel Museum Quarter and Sonder Hotel by Marriott Bonvoy in Amsterdam,” she shared.

“There didn’t seem to be any issues during my stay, so Sonder’s default is shocking. On the plus side, the 7 Elite Stay points and 15,316 points I earned for this stay have been credited to my Marriott Bonvoy account.”

This anecdote bodes well for anyone currently staying at a Sonder hotel booked through Marriott, but as the company stated in a press release, it’s best to be proactive and contact Marriott as soon as possible using this link to address questions and concerns about current and upcoming reservations.

We’ve reached out to Marriott for more information and will update this story as needed.
