Kim Kardashian gets authentic Donald Judd in legal settlement

The Judd Foundation settled with Kim Kardashian and Kim Kardashian’s designs, according to court records, after reality TV stars promoted the late artist’s minimalist tables and chairs.

The lawsuit revolves around the now-deleted 2022 promotional video where Kardashian toured Kim Company’s hair removal offices, which boasted what she called “Donald Judd desks.” The table in question is reminiscent of Judd’s La Mansana table 22 and 84 chairs. The video received over 3.6 million views before it was deleted. In 2024, the Foundation sued her for false claims because the dining set wasn’t real Judd.

In a joint statement, the Judd Foundation and Clements agreed to recognize “the inherent rights of Donald Judd’s furniture and art.” Instead, Kardashian “will now have the authentic Donald Judd table and chair of Donald Judd Furniture LLC.”

The Judd Foundation previously insisted that the video was deleted and that the furniture was “recycled.”

The deal was a surprising twist, contrary to Megan Bannigan, the attorney representing the foundation. New York Times: “We don’t want to be mixed with Kim Kardashian. We respect what she does, but we don’t want to be involved.”

However, both the Judd Foundation and Clements were reportedly “satisfied” with the results.

This is not Kardashian’s first venture with the art world, a potential owner of a $4.9 million Jean-Michel Basquiat painting and the owner of George’s apartment paintings, and of course, she made a appearance on Met Gala in a changed Marylin Monroe dress on MET Gala.

Just last week, the Texas Historical Commission, a group that oversees the state’s preserved sites, announced that a series of buildings reused and under the charge of two artist foundations have been added to a national registry that gives long-standing cultural sites a preservation.
