Alex Chinneck’s corrugated townhouse sits on London Square – Huge

Design requires real tricks to make steel and bricks seem unimportant or even playful. But British artist Alex Chinneck (formerly) is no stranger to the huge project of reimagining urban infrastructure and buildings.

As part of London’s Clekenwell Design Week, Chinneck announced “A Week’s Knee” in a new sculpture at Charterhouse Square, getting tips from his iconic predecessor. The artist installed “from my nose to my toe belly” on a dilapidated townhouse in Margate in 2013, and it looked as if the entire front of the building was gliding. According to London in June, his new work has a frame made of 320 meters of reused steel and 7,000 bricks.

“A Week of Knee” playfully anthropomorphizes the classic Georgian exterior, with two lower levels rippling on a path as if the knees were sitting in a park. London is known for its green squares and gardens, and Chinneck’s work invites visitors through a unique portal that calls for its surrounding history and is equipped with lights of downwater and lights, with arched front door sides.

Chinneck has collaborated with numerous British companies to create sculptures to procure and create custom steel beams, curved windows and bricks. The work is five meters high and weighs 12 tons, imitating a life-sized building with a thickness of only 15 cm. This effect gives oneself a huge, lightweight personality experience with its huge architectural structure.
