Nosheen Iqbal’s sculpture embroidery on wood translates architectural patterns into threads – Huge

The semicircle forms a smooth wooden board structure, floral embroidery by Nosheen Iqbal. Paving brightly colored lines with impeccable precision, the Dallas-based artist (formerly) has created vivid Arabic and geometric patterns similar to her Pakistani and Islamic heritage.
Iqbal is interested in the interaction of light and shadow, which tends to stand out most in the three-dimensional form of sunlessness. Small bead bolts depicting petals and leaves, with surfaces flashing when illuminated. “As the light moves across my work, it enhances the saturation of the color and emphasizes complex threads, shifts and reveals new dimensions,” she said.

The blend of ancient design and production traditions reflects the artist’s desire to bring together seemingly different mediums, techniques and ideas. “Living while holding Eastern heritage in the West drives me to innovate, form elements from different art movements, creating a fusion of fusion that respects my roots while embracing new influences,” she added.
