Wood and ceramic “guardian” combination emphasizes earth material through expanded eyes – huge

The duo said that by vaguely distinguishing between abstraction and figurative, Eye’s recent work explores the theme of the divine female and the theme of “the power of peace of Mother Earth”. Expanded Eye includes Lisbon-based artists Jade Tomlinson and Kevin James, who incorporate wood and repurposed materials into bold ingredients with characteristic geometric shapes, figurative tattoos and combinations (previously) (previously). Through large-scale installations and frameworks, the artist explores the possibilities of texture, patterns and colors.
Tomlinson and James paused their tattoo practice, focusing on sculpture relief. Ceramics, in particular, have become the central purpose of its practice, inspired by the rich tiles tradition in Portugal, and are known as Azulejo– An illustration of cross-cultural exchange. The artist’s serene guardians of “using this basic ancient material on Earth to portray the twilight of the ground to evoke stillness and calmness in this fast-paced world.”
The past and present blend Eye’s composition, raising interest in the continuity of eternity, clay, carving and architectural methods. Graphic elements and scattered features also call for art historical modernism in the early 20th century, especially the Cubist movement. The artist told Huge that it is this “fusion of traditional materials with unique modern approaches that excite us – connecting the past to the present.”
