How a positive network will do the inevitable

Someone said to me a few years ago that people are profound: people who succeed are not always the smartest or hardest workers (although that is a great quality to have). Those who take the lead are those who keep their chances alert. Sometimes these opportunities are within your organization. However, usually they are external.

When I interviewed Dave Opton, the founder of execunet, on the podcast, Job seeking radio, Orton notes that 70% of his company’s members told him that the network is “critical” In their job search, these factors – these connections usually start with people you didn’t know before.

If you are like most employees, you’ve been burying your job. You focus on doing your job well. Maybe you are pursuing a course or two to get a better degree or certification. You are working hard on the ladder of your current company, rather than doing one of the things that will help the next time you lay off or recession: proactive networking.

Most people once involved in job hunting (or re-engagement). No wonder people don’t respond to news from previous colleagues or friends they haven’t heard of in years? They know that the purpose of contact is to “the internet” or “picking up the brain.” Just as Marlon Brando was Don Corleone godfather“We’ve known each other for many years, but this is the first time you’ve come to me for consultation or for help. I don’t remember the last time you invited me to have a coffee at home.” In this case, the network is a one-way request (you want help) in which you’re looking for someone’s help.

So, how do you network Effectively Considering how busy you are, in the least amount of time?

1. Give more to get more.

No one likes a recipient who only asks others to give them. Provide support and follow up when requested.

2. Don’t just connect.

I am a LinkedIn member 7653. Of my 22,000+ level one connections, more than 20,000 contacted me and never followed up. What benefits are we receiving? I know that when I get close to 30,000 connection limits LinkedIn is applied, some of my connections will be replaced.

Don’t forget suppliers, customers and consultants

3. Use your phone.

Email and texting are better than nothing. Messaging on LinkedIn and Facebook is also effective. But the phone is best because people react better to hearing someone’s voice than imagine their own voice in words or emails. In your commuter home, call someone and stay in touch: “Hi! It seems like a hundred years since the last speech, so I think I’ll call you and see how you’re in.” It’s a great conversation launcher or voicemail message.

4. Actually use LinkedIn as expected.

Contact people you know: friends, colleagues, former colleagues. This is how you can be sure to give them your current email address and phone number. Stay in touch.

The truth is, we are about to decline again.

No one knows when, but one is inevitable. Proactively fostering your network means you can stay in touch with them. After all, when the next recession occurs, you don’t know who can help (or need your help).

In the last big event, millions of people lost their jobs and hopes were dashed globally. The ability to activate the network will provide you with faster hope and opportunity than you do your best to piece together support support.

Now It’s time to proactively build your network so you can be ready when needed.
