Lucy Davidson’s stop-motion animation “Baggage” travels through “Insecurity Check” – Huge

For those who travel frequently through the airport, the check-in and check bags always seem to be affected by potential anxiety. What if the suitcase is routed to the wrong plane or never reached? What if it falls in or searches out? For filmmaker Lucy Davidson, it has nothing to do with luggage, it is about what’s inside us.

As the latest student to Aardman Academy, run by its Academy Awards’s animation studio of the same name, Davidson touches not only on the common experience of travel, but also on interesting explorations of the many meanings of “baggage.” In her brief stopping action titled “Lucks,” we follow a group of women, who are also accidental suitcases, on a trip.

Davidson’s fascinating black and white narratives allow us to navigate briefly and powerfully through human emotions, especially the various feelings we have associated with confidence, past experiences and relationships. The movie’s slogan says: “Three girlfriends checked their luggage at the airport, but one carried more than the others.” “Can she hide what’s inside when they headed along the conveyor belt to the safety belt?”

This year, Davidson’s animation is the official choice for the SXSW Film and Television Festival and is also a finalist for the Sydney Film Festival. See more information on the movie website and discover more work by film producers on her website Vimeo and Instagram.
