Amex Daveter vs. Citigroup: No annual points required

AMEX Everyday offers relatively standard benefits such as car rental loss and damage insurance and access to the global auxiliary hotline, as well as access to AMEX’s membership rewards program. You can also choose to book your next flight or hotel accommodation with the points plan.

Win points with the Citigroup through Amex Daily
These two cards provide comparable and easy to understand revenue rates.
AMEX Daily Provided:
- Earn 2 points per dollar purchased in US supermarkets (up to $6,000 per year for expenses; then 1 point per dollar) (according to TPG’s August 2025 valuation of 4% return)
- Earn 1 point per dollar for all other purchases (2%)
AMEX also offers 20% bonus points per day when you purchase a card 20 or more. If you swipe your card a lot every month, this may be a great way to increase some extra points.

this Citi floor Earn:
- Spend 5 points per dollar on hotels, car rentals and attractions booked in Citi Travel Portal (according to TPG August 2025 valuation of 9.5%)
- Spend 3 points (5.7%) per dollar on supermarkets and select shipping, EV charging and gas purchases (5.7%)
- Each dollar spent 3 points on qualified self-selected categories (you can change every quarter) (5.7%), which includes:
- Barber shops, cosmetics shops and hair salons
- Fitness Club
- Live entertainment
- Pet Supplies Store
- Select Stream Service
- Spend 2 points per dollar at restaurant (3.8%)
- Spend 1 point per dollar on all other purchases (1.9%)
Amex offers simplicity everyday, but you can do better with other, less-young fee cards, as the grocery category limits only $6,000 in spending per year, and there are no other rewards categories. If you make 20 deals, the 20% bonus point is good, but not everyone can benefit from it.
At the same time, Citigroup offers a variety of daily expense bonus categories with unlimited income. The Citi layer will cover more categories on your base, making it a better choice for most people.
winner: Citi floor. At the gas stations and supermarkets, plus self-selected categories, the Citi layer brings the cake here.

Amex’s daily life and the redemption points of the Citi class
Rewards earned on AMEX every day through Amex Travel, gift cards or Amazon purchases can be redeemed for up to 1 cent and can pay for your fee for 0.6 cents.
However, when you redeem points to travel through AMEX’s airline and hotel partners, you usually get the most value.

Citi floor Points can be redeemed for traveling in Citi Travel Portal, respectively, and gift cards are usually 1 cent per piece, purchased on Amazon at 0.8 cents per point, or cash back at 0.5 cents per point.
Redeem gift cards or traveling through the Citi Travel Portal for 1 point is a better option, although transferring to a partner is also a superior option.

Use AMEX daily to transfer points with Citigroup
Both cards allow you to transfer points to your partners. Each issuer has 20 airlines and hotel partners.
AMEX allows transfers to popular programs based on the United States, such as Delta Skymiles and JetBlue TrueBlue, but you usually get more value by leveraging international airline programs.
TPG’s valuation of PEG AMEX points is 2 cents, which is an extremely high speed, mainly because the value of its points once transferred to its sufficient travel partners.

You can transfer points on your Citi tier card to any of your travel partners at Citi. However, most partners transfer at a ratio of 1:0.7. Some of the popular partners include American Airlines Aadvantage and Qatar Airways Privileges Club.
If you have a CitiPrestige® card (no longer available) or Citigroup Prime Minister Together with your strata, you can move points to your prestige or strata account and transfer them to most partners at a 1:1 ratio. TPG chief writer Katie Genter loves to transfer her Citi thank you points and leverage transfer partners such as Air France-klm Flying Blue and Avianca Lifemiles to provide hotel flights and selection privileges.
Although both Amex points and Citi points are valuable, Amex has a slight advantage here. You don’t need another Amex card to transfer points in full proportion.

Should I get Amex or Citi tiers every day?
If you are considering switching to the Citigroup, consider the categories you are doing in which categories you are doing. The formation offers firm value and fun category bonuses for supermarkets, gas stations and self-select categories every quarter and can be redeemed for your rewards, providing flexibility. Unless you plan to brush at least 20 times a day for each billing period, you may stand out from the hierarchy.
Bottom line
Both cards have their own advantages. However, new applicants no longer use AMEX, which makes the Citigroup more attractive. This may be a solid way to start with Citi thank you please click without paying the annual fee.
