In Andalusian vineyards, vivid carpets create a space for parties – huge

A bold intervention located in Andalusian vineyards is a space gathered in the small village of Montemaio. “Pasera” is the latest member of Javier de Riba ongoing floor The series is a project designed to use small plots of land as a public place.

“Pascela” refers to the field of grape shrub raisins, which produces unusually sweet Pedro Ximénez-style dessert sherry in the typical raisins throughout the region. De Riba’s murals mimic the patterned carpet, are vibrant patterns of burgundy and soft yellow, paying tribute to the surrounding fruits.

The local community hosted a breakfast to open new works, which the artist noted was an important part of instilling pride and ownership in the space. He added: “Because the feeling of home is a creative feeling and if it is not taken care of, it will disappear, now it depends on its use and care to ensure that this gathering place is still alive.”

De Riba offers prints and picnic blankets and features his unique patterns in his shop. Find more on his website and on Instagram.
