Facebook requires users to use meta AI on photos in their private camera rolls

Facebook is pretty sure if you need an AI-edited version of each photo in your phone’s camera roll, whether they’ve been uploaded to Facebook or not.

That’s what you want, right?

The Verge reports that when users open the Facebook app on their phone and navigate to add photos or videos from the camera roll to their Facebook stories, the screen pops up asking if they want to choose “cloud processing to get creative ideas from the camera roll.”

Meta AI warns that your chatbot conversations may be public. This is the way to get them private.

The pop-up window of TechCrunch screenshot displays:

“Your best camera scrolling, curated for you: ideas like collages, reviews, AI respite or topics like birthdays or graduation. To create ideas for you, we will select media from camera scrolling and make continuous information based on information like time, location, or topic. Only use these suggestions. You will see these suggestions. You will have to use these media to determine and make security.

If you click “Allow”, you will agree to the use of meta-AI term, which tends to be long-term. It allows Meta AI to analyze media and facial features and “use information like dates and presence of people or objects.”

However, not every user is facing this pop-up – it’s just a test, meta-spokesman Maria Cubeta told TechCrunch.

“We are exploring suggestions for sharing content more easily by testing people’s ready-made and curated content in camera rolls,” she said. “These suggestions are only opt-in and only show you – unless you decide to share them – and can be turned off at any time. Camera media can be used to improve these suggestions, but not to improve the AI model in this test.”

TechCrunch reported that Facebook is currently testing recommendations in the U.S. and Canada, but it is obvious that not every user has found pop-ups, including myself.

Meta did not immediately respond to Mashable’s request for comment.
