A selection of recent works by Detroit artist Carson Monahan. Monahan seems ordinary moments and brings them otherworldly existence, augmenting reality and blurring the boundaries between body and mind. Symbolism, especially animal figures, appears throughout the process, emphasizing the tension between natural instincts and unexpected or mysterious events, which raises doubts about our human intuition and consciousness. Monahan’s influence ranges from fantasy, folklore, Renaissance and mythology to dreams and subconsciousness.
