What is the difference between editing properties of Chase and point promotion?

Chase recently introduced a new way for qualified cardholders to potentially get higher value when booking Chase Travel: Points Boost, thus providing a higher redemption rate in Select Hotel accommodation. This new feature joins editors from Chase Travel, a curated hotel collection that has been available since March 2024.
While both of these privileges are relevant to hotel booking and offer a high-end experience, they are designed for different types of travelers and are available for different chase cardholders.
Here is how everyone works, how they are accessed and how to choose a category for their next trip.
What is Chase’s point of view?
First, let’s talk about it. The new program allows eligible chasing cardholders to redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points through the Chase Travel Portal, thus obtaining increased redemption rates for selected hotel and airline bookings. Think of it as a limited-time quote that can further extend your point of view.
If you are a cardholder by June 23, 2025, you are in a unique position: you can use these two points to boost, while the original fixed redemption rate is 1.25 or 1.5 cents per point (depending on the Chase Card you hold) until October 26, 2027. Points BOOST may increase the value of certain bookings, and the value can be variable and does not guarantee “not guaranteed” fees. On the other hand, the fixed rate is consistent across all trips. Depending on the quote, it may be worth comparing these two options to see which one brings you more value.
This is a transformation from the previous structure, which is a fixed rate that is standard with such Chase SapphireReserve® (See rates and fees) and Chase Sapphire Priority® Card (See rates and fees).

How to improve your work by earning points?
As points improve, Chase offers specific travel deals, such as flights to London or hotels in Miami – the value of your point of view exceeds their typical redemption value. These offer vary by destination, travel date and availability and are available in Chase Travel Portal.
For example, if a hotel is typically priced at $250 or 25,000 points, the points deal could allow you to book only at 18,000 points, effectively increasing the value of each point.

You can determine if Chase provides points improvements to a particular hotel by searching the hotel name in the Chase Portal and paying attention to the Rocket icon’s “Point Raising” label.
Here is an example of how the portal looks as a Sapphire preferred card holder:

With the boost of my booking points, my ultimate reward points are worth about 1.75 cents, and 1.25 cents per point.
When searching for a destination in Chase Portal, you can switch to Point-Only Start to limit search queries so that you can only see the hotel providing point-uplifting.
Which chase card is eligible to increase points?
Cardholders can use points to improve Sapphire Conservation Areathis Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business- (See Rates and Fees), JP Morgan Reserve, The Sapphire preferred card and Ink Business First Choice® Credit Card (See rates and fees).
With these cards, you can get more value for redemption points on select flights and hotel bookings made through Chase Travel – remember that Chase either offers you points added value or fixed interest rate value for better prices. The highest redemption rate (up to 2 cents per point) is only available for Sapphire Reserve and JP Morgan Carddolder.
I have the first choice for sapphires and recently redeem points for three nights at Indigo Hotel Indigo Florence in IHG, Italy.
Without the points increase, the accommodation will cost me $791.28 or 59,362 points, and I’m worth 1.3 cents. However, as the points improve, I only need to use 49,468 points plus $49.26, which I can cover with my $50 chase travel credit. So my value is 1.5 cents.
While saving less than 10,000 points doesn’t seem to be a lot, based on our July 2025 valuation, the TPG value chase point is 2.05 cents per point, and the 10,000 chase points are worth $205.
Information on JP Morgan Reserve has been collected independently by Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

What is the edit of Chase Travel?
Next, let’s introduce Chase’s well-curated hotel collection in March 2024, which offers premium benefits when booking a participating property through Chase Travel. These privileges are similar to those found in other luxury hotel programs, such as American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts.

What benefits will Chase editors get?
When you book a hotel through editing, you will get the possibility of including:
- Daily breakfast
- Room upgrade (if any)
- Early checkout and late arrival
- $100 property credit or similar convenience
Key Differences between Point Promotion and Editing

Which chase card is eligible for editing?
The only one Sapphire Conservation Area (Personal and Business) and JP Morgan Reserve Cardholders can book through editing. Sapphire prefers and Ink business priority Cardholders do this no Editing is available.
When to use point promotion and edit
Unfortunately, not every hotel can improve points. If you are a chasing cardholder before June 23, your final reward points (obtained before October 26) will still be worth 1.25 or 1.5 cents (until October 26, 2027). If points cannot be selected, the points obtained after that date will be 1%.
For cardholders who have obtained qualified pursuit cards after June 23, the redemption of points cannot be obtained by 1 point.
So, when you want to maximize the value of a point on a selected flight or hotel, use point boost. When booking a hotel stay, use the editor and want a luxurious experience with built-in privileges like breakfast, room upgrades, and resorts.
If your main goal is to expand your points further, then the points improvement is the winner. If you are looking for a more advanced hotel experience, edit it.
Can you combine point lifting with editing?
Yes, doing this may be a great way to maximize the chase point. If you booked your stay in Chase Travel’s Editor and qualified for points, you can redeem points at a higher price (up to 2 cents per point) and enjoy free luxury items such as breakfast, property credit and room upgrades.
Sapphire Reserve cardholders may even be able to get more value and stack other statement credits, such as editorial credit of $250 between January 1 and June 30 ($250 for biennial credit), between July 1 and December 31, and an additional $250 for $250).
Please note that this credit cannot be used at one time and is only applicable to prepaid fees for at least two nights.
Bottom line
With the introduction of points promotion and editing, Chase is providing travel-centric cardholders with more ways to redeem points and enhance their experience. While points enhancements help expand points further, editors add luxury and convenience to your hotel accommodation. Learning about different programs can help you unlock more value from Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
