I never really thought about Amex Green before I wrote this review. When I learned about this card, I realized it was a surprisingly powerful medium travel card, a surprisingly powerful travel card for anyone who travels with priority, goes out frequently and charges travel fees.

Its annual fee is $150, and TPG recommends applicants have a credit score of 670 or higher for the best chance of approval.

If you can take advantage of Clear Plus statement credit, the card is easily a worthy mention for Traveler’s wallet. Let’s take a closer look at whether it’s suitable for you as well.

If you are looking for an intermediate travel reward card, stable income and benefits make Amex Green a serious competitor.

$199 Clear Plus Annual Statement Credit

The benefit of the Amex Green Card I haven’t seen on many other cards is that it offers up to $199 per calendar year with transparency plus statement credit. Clear eyes and fingertips can help you pass security faster at certain airports and stadiums across the country.

Since the member’s normal interest rate is $199 per year, the statement credit covers annual fees for the full year. But, remember that on July 1, the Clear Plus costs up to $209. Registration is required; automatic renewal is required.

It is important to note that these categories are broad. For example, “travel” includes air tickets, hotels, tours, campgrounds and vacation rentals, while “transit” includes trains, taxis, vehicle and vehicle services, ferries and tolls.

Depending on your lifestyle, most of your spending may fall into these categories.

Redemption Points on Amex Green

Amex Green offers membership reward points that can be redeemed in a variety of ways.

In addition to travel, options include recent, qualifying purchases, shopping on Amazon, and shopping with membership rewards. However, these options offer much less value than redeeming your travel points.

Using your points on Amazon offers poor value at just 0.7 cents per point; redemption points cover eligible fees that will make you 0.6 cents per point; shopping with membership rewards is the worst option, offering a meager 0.5 cents per point.

Given TPG’s June 2025 valuation PEG membership reward points for 2 cents per point, redeeming your travel points is by far the best option. The easiest way to get at least 2 cents per point is to use the transfer partner of AMEX.

Some of the best sweet spots include one-way business-grade flights to Europe and stay in the world’s preferred hotels and resorts, and have hotel choice points.

TPG credit card writer Chris Nelson will regularly move toward Avianca Lifemiles and fly as low as 17,000 points in the economic class’s transatlantic to Europe. Avianca Lifemiles has a lot of great redemptions with Star Alliance partners, making it a particularly valuable transfer partner.

Bottom line

Amex Green’s statement credit offsets the $150 annual fee, making this card a compelling choice for young professionals and others who allocate most of their budget to travel, dining and commute.

If you use a clear annual statement credit and can maximize the widely defined bonus category, Amex Green is a card that is seriously considered adding to your wallet.
