Amex adds Amsterdam to the growing network of Centurion Lounge

American Express once again bent its muscles as the leader of credit card brand airport lounges, with another new location coming soon.

This time, it is the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), which will soon be the location of the Centurion Lounge.

Amex announced Tuesday that it will open the 29th Centurion lounge between Concourses E and F in AMS in 2026.

The publisher mocked the space for Dutch-style designs with artwork from local artists along with floor-to-ceiling windows and locally inspired food and beverage options.

In fact, AMEX will offer a specially designed coffee bar, the importance of this coffee in Dutch culture and social gatherings.

The issuer shared only one rendering of the new space, and from the exterior, the outpost should feel very premium and airy.

Unfortunately, the lounge can only reach 6,000 square feet, which is not only the smallest in the network, but also probably one of the busiest. After all, AMS is the fourth airport in Europe to Baukou.

This represents Amex’s second European location (after London) and should be good news for travelers passing through AMS.

Amex started its first location in Las Vegas in 2013. Since then, issuers have been expanding, opening nearly 30 locations worldwide.

While Capital One and Chase have since joined the party, neither the issuer has a wide rest network like Amex. In fact, no issuer has lounges in Europe (at least not yet).

Of course, Amex has a long start, but it takes a lot of capital and pursuit for several years to compete with Amex’s scale. After all, finding spaces to rent at the airport may be the biggest obstacle to opening more lounges.

The good news is that Capital One and Chase will certainly raise the bar in terms of lounge design, dining and amenities. Once you enter these spaces, you can expect elevated product and customization experiences.

In addition to Amsterdam, Amex is about to open lounges in Newark, Salt Lake City and Tokyo. Newark will open next year, while two other lounges are expected to open in 2025.

Additionally, Amex was granted a lease, opening a new two-story lounge space at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), which is expected to start welcoming flyers sometime in 2027.
