First look: American Express’s new Centurion Lounge at Tokyo’s Hanida Airport

American Express brings the Centurion Lounge to Japan, with its long-awaited outpost located at the Haneda Airport (HND) in Tokyo.

The 7,500 square feet of space will open this week at Terminal 3 near Gate 114.

Highlights of the new lounge include a Japanese-style design and a comprehensive selection of local food and beer.

Amex works with chef Satoshi Ogino to be known for managing several Michelin-starred restaurants, including his own Akasaka Ogino, to design food experiences in the lounge.

Amex said travelers can expect Japanese favorites including sushi and ramen, while the buffet will serve local and Western cuisine.

The bar will offer wine and cocktails, as well as Japanese beer, sake and Shochu options.

Even better, there’s even a dedicated candy bar where you’ll find all kinds of teas and traditional Japanese Waggassi candies.

Apart from a lot of investment in the dining experience, the lounge itself will look like a beautiful space to relax. The design is inspired by Japanese culture and you will find pop music in deep indigo tones known as “Japanese Blue” throughout the space, designed to represent tranquility and stability.

Amex even borrowed from local artists to curate some of its most iconic works, including the reimagining of Saki Matsumoto’s iconic Amex Bulldog turned into a stunning textile.

Apart from these unique elements, this centurion lounge covers all the basics.

There are some private telephone rooms that double as a meditation cabin. There are also a wide variety of seating options including armchairs, high-top tables, dining tables and sofas.

There is even a private room with seating for families and groups equipped with TV.

Those with American Express only invite-only centurion cards can relax in the lounge’s dedicated VIP room, which offers a more unique design, its own drink station, and most importantly, quick access to the lounge.

Information on the Centurion card has been collected independently by Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

This lounge is only 7,500 square feet and will undoubtedly be busy and I hope to form a waitlist on the peak travel windows.

Of course, the offer is better than nothing, so I’m glad to check out this new Centurion lounge next time I pass HND.

This space is Amex’s 30 Centurion lounge and the fourth lounge in Asia, joining existing outposts in New Delhi, Hong Kong and Mumbai, India.
