Prime Day vs. Black Friday: Which sales are better?

The difference between Golden Day and Black Friday – their roots anyway – may not be a mystery to anyone who has been shopping online before.

Most of us know that Black Friday is a big sales frenzy that takes place around Thanksgiving, and as a pioneer of the holidays, almost every store can think of attending. Additionally, the name of “Prime Day” indicates that the event is indeed an Amazon-specific event that Amazon has composed of members of its Prime subscription service.

The line between the two shopping holidays is also not like the blur between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which is becoming indistinguishable due to one 1 day apart, and only a few days on the calendar. Black Friday’s online shopping relies heavily on online shopping.

But back to the question at hand. Most people don’t care about these shopping holiday semantics. People just want to know: Are there better deals on Golden Day or Black Friday?

Does Amazon have a better deal on Golden Day or Black Friday?

There are so many days on Amazon that you can’t help but assume that the days in July are the Olympics. Amazon’s price history shows us that in many cases, Amazon’s efforts on Black Friday are indeed the same as Golden Day. However, there are several categories that are indeed available to play. First, deals on TV tend to be better on Black Friday. Apart from its own fire TV discount, Amazon will not struggle with them at any time of the year. Best Buy has (virtual) shelves options at any given point, especially with more premium large-screen options than Amazon. While Best Buy does hold competitive sales on Prime Day, on Black Friday, it tends to have bigger shows.

For the same reason, we saw better laptop deals on Black Friday. Amazon’s choice isn’t great compared to competitors, and they usually keep the best quotes for the year-end holiday shopping season. It’s not just because they know more shoppers are shopping at that time: According to Mashable’s Haley Henschel, it’s also because “manufacturers are trying to uninstall inventory before the next generation refresh before the next generation is refreshed early the following year.”

Finally, in the real nostalgic holiday preparations, the toy deal also tends to pop up more than a big hit on Black Friday. If you want to sign up for a cheaper streaming service than usual, many large companies (will come to mind from Hulu and Peacock) are almost guaranteed to have Black Friday sales, and they don’t have any reason to join Prime Day.
