Former Rolling Stones says the Metropolitan Museum has his stolen guitar

The guitar was taken from a French villa in Nellcôte’s Rolling Stones in 1971, and the thief reportedly absconded with Keith Richards’ guitar, among other instruments.
Collector Dirk Ziff handed over the 500 guitar to the Metropolitan. At the time, Metropolitan director Max Hollein said guitars constituted “a pioneering and transformative gift that positioned the museum as a center for appreciation and research on American guitars.”

It is not clear how to postal Taylor finds his guitar held by the Met. These guitars are not under observation at this time and their full list has not been released to the public. The Metropolitan release does mention another Rolling Stones member, Keith Richards, but the museum says he played Les Paul in 1959 in 1964.
But Taylor’s manager Marlies said the Mets do have Taylor’s guitar. “There are a lot of photos of Mick Taylor playing Les Paul because it was his main guitar until it disappeared,” Deming told the Post. “What’s interesting about these old-fashioned Les Pauls (from the late 1950s) is that they’re famous for their burning…it’s unique, like fingerprints.”
The report also quoted an unnamed source, saying: “Taylor said he never received compensation for theft and was puzzled by how his property entered the Metropolitan Collection.”
A Metropolitan spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.
