What is the typical timeline for a company to hire a replacement on two weeks’ notice? Is this considered a normal or reasonable time? You know, for some types of jobs, they can find someone within a few days, and that’s normal. For other types of work involving specific skills or expertise, it may take longer than a few days; this may take several months. Is this typical? Yes, yes. It depends on the interviewer and the nature of the question or the type of skills they need someone to have.

So it could take any time, long or short, and that’s not your concern anymore. If they said, “We can’t take two weeks from you, we need at least four weeks.” Well, my new employer wants me to be there in two weeks, and I will respect those wishes. “But we need four of you.” You know, and I understand, that my new employer needs me in two things. Just stay very calm about it. You say, “If you need some kind of help getting someone new on board, I can help with the interview process no matter how long I’m here and would be happy to help during my off-duty hours while I work for my new employer.” “Who are you going to work for?” “I don’t think this is particularly relevant, but I’m going to work for another organization and I’d be willing to answer this person’s questions during my off-hours. So if you need that, send me a message. We’ll set up a time for me to talk to this person to help you.” That’s all you do.
