Who will do a better job for you – recruiting people or coaches?

Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter
He walked into my conference room two hours before the interview. I was there to prepare him for client interviews in a C-level role. His shoes were scratched, his clothes were wrinkled, and sweat was covered in his shirt.
“A tough day,” I asked.
“I kept working on the problem at 2 a.m. and couldn’t fall asleep until 3:30.”
I peeked at the watch. That was 9:30. The fact that he was already wearing it was 90 degrees and knew him like I did. ”He is not ready for the performance elite.
I will reschedule your interview tomorrow. Today, you have no shapes to walk in and impress them. Let’s use the time now to prepare me for everything I expect. ”
“Have you worked with them before?”
“Yes, it’s been about 5 years. I understand what they want to see. You won’t give it to them today.”
As someone who searches for years, I have established relationships with many clients who open to me the nuances of the positions they want to fill or the qualities of the people they want to experience in interviews. Six years ago, I transitioned to global coaching. People hire me without BS coaching and career advice, related to job search, hiring, managing and leading more effectively, and more.
I understand the difference between the role of a recruiter/search professional and a career coach. If you understand their strengths, everyone can be a powerful ally.
Advantages of recruiting staff
Recruiters can get actual job opportunities. They have been hired by employers to find someone to fill a specific position.
You do not pay for recruiters to work for you. This is both good news and bad news. They try to fill positions with institutional clients. They are not trying to get a job for you.
They have practical connections and relationships with their clients. Experienced search professionals and recruiters. They will know the subtleties of the position, the hiring managers, and many others you will meet. This can help them prepare for the specific interview you scheduled.
Expert tips: The more the recruiter promotes “a team of great people doing exciting jobs for a great company in a great company”, the less experience they usually have, or the less they really know about the position.
Recruiters can provide you with targeted guidance. An experienced recruiter who has worked with clients for several years. Over time, you will learn a lot from your clients. You will hear their thoughts. You will understand their non-work interests. Experienced recruiters will translate this information into suggestions on how to connect with the interviewer, so you don’t have to figure it out. After all, people often go to interviews and take the time to “feel” the interviewer rather than performing well on their own. Targeted guidance from recruiters who know their clients will help you project more confidence and personality, connect with the interviewer faster, and show that you care about doing great work because you have an accurate sense of who you meet.
Recruiters understand the hiring process for that particular company and manager. They will know the questions you might be asked, have a certain feeling about the timeline for their decisions, and practical advice to prepare you for your first, second, third or ninth interview with your clients while managing your expectations.
Recruiters can conduct mock interviews for the specific role you interviewed. A professional coach can conduct mock interviews, but rarely reflects specific questions you may be asked to take on a role. The questions the coach may ask are often more general and not targeting this particular job.
Both recruiters and coaches can and will provide objective feedback. However, recruiters can provide specific feedback about the job you are interviewing for as they try to fill the position and get a commission.
Advantages of working with coaches
The interview coach prepares for your interview. Recruiters can prepare you for specific interviews. After working in both areas, I see how my job is conducted for the coaching can help people prepare for recruiters and prepare for interviews. Since you don’t have much time to prepare before the interview, an interview coach will help you with the method and practice environment for preparing for your work. In fact, the recruiter adjusts what you learn from the interview coach.
The coach works for you. Recruiting staff works for company clients. “Follow this money” is a famous quote for the 20th century American political scandal. It also applies. When you work with recruiters, especially when they provide you with advice on salary discussions and negotiation strategies, their advice and opinions may be subject to the fact that their salary is paid (if they are an effort to pay), or if they pay, their payment method or in some compensation is made. Being able to provide strategies that can help you get what you want.
Expert tips: Not all search professionals or recruiters will have your interests. Not all coaches can provide strategies and strategies that will turn into more money or better compensation.
The coach invests in your overall career success. Recruiters are working hard to fill positions. Yes, I know some recruiters will look bigger and help someone lay the foundation for their careers. This is almost a benefit for you. Few recruiters will say, “I think you should reject my client’s offer. You tell me you are looking for a position that you can step into C Suite Leadership for you at the career stage after this position. This position won’t do that.” It’s not just about earning a total fee from your employer. This is because they have the habit of wanting to win. Winning means closing the client’s position. The coach is working for you and your interests.
Coaches can help you with skill development, long-term planning and accountability support. By contrast, the company hires recruiters to find someone to fill a specific position, which will be paid if someone works for a client for a while.
Both recruiters and coaches can be valuable assets for someone during their careers. Everyone will benefit you, which will help you grow throughout your career. It’s important to build relationships with both, so they know how to help you when they need support.
