London’s tender, cute and ridiculous, inflatable sculpture inserts “emotional swing” – Huge
Rong Bao has produced strange inflatable sculptures from PVC, organic silicon-coated fabrics, nylon mesh, electronics, and other materials found or manipulated. “My fascination with inflatable structures began when I realized they might be immediately – everything was ridiculous, tender and unstable,” the artist told the Giants. “Unlike rigid materials, inflatables breathe, swing, collapse and revival. They seem to be alive, with a sense of humor and vulnerability that resonate with me.”
Rong’s ongoing series of alien-like creatures stepped on the line between humor and discomfort, abstraction and representation, and what she calls “cute and instability of existence.” The artist plays a role similar to a playful mad scientist, just imagines Frankenstein’s unpredictable monster being a resilient neon pink candy.
Rong spent weeks to months drawing, prototyping elements, testing inflationary behavior and structural integrity, and then creating the final work so that each composition is correct. “It usually involves a lot of trial and error, and the laughter and despair between the two,” she said.
Rong recently introduced in an episode of the BBC Children’s TV show Go to artycurrently Harper’s Market China It combines a traditional lightweight silk fabric and has deep cultural roots in China.
“I think my practice is a soft and contradictory playground – between serious and stupidity, desire and failure, monumentality and buckling,” Long said. “Many of my work should have been touched, entered, or even played. When the audience smiles and smiles, I like it, and then suddenly feel a little uneasy. The moment when the emotion sways – that’s the space I’m pursuing.”
Rong’s work recently unfolded in the Selfridges display window, a entitled ” A new era The department store displays 15 emerging artists.
