The Office of Collections and Design, a miniature museum, attacked the road – Huge

Artist and filmmaker Jessica Oreck cultivates what she calls a “collection collection.” From tiny glass eggs to lonely toy shoes to colorful beads and dominoes, the collection and design offices contain tiny objects that have gathered for thousands of years.

The microcosm archive, which was once housed near downtown Las Vegas, recently landed on the road, driving on the West Coast with a 42-foot trailer. Oreck, her husband and friend Emily Freeh transformed the campers into a mobile museum that included flat documents, card catalogs and jars with model chairs, card decks, fragments of broken dolls, antique portraits and more. Now, they are preparing to stop for a second tour in Portland, Boulder and Salt Lake City.

Oreck told Colossal that it would take about eight months to renovate the trailer, while the financial support for the Kickstarter campaign was supported. When the first tour stops in cities like San Diego and Los Angeles, museums also become places for public seminars, lectures, and even trinket interactions to attract local communities. The upcoming visit will be similar, providing visitors with an opportunity to not only dig out collections, but also participate in programming around the project.

For those not on the planned route, the museum hosts “a series of clubs, swaps and exchanges that connect global curious thoughts and relative collectors through small, meaningful mail exchanges, which is a surprising reminder. I like to think of it as part of a secret society, part of a postal playground,” Oreck said. These include the “Decoder Club”, which involves secret messages and strange objects from the series, and the “Treasure Club”, which sends a small project to members every month.

Oreck is still finalizing plans for the fall and is looking forward to the tour by 2027. Follow Instagram closely for the latest information on parking in your city.
