Is the AMEX membership reward expired?
Membership reward points will not expire. However, if you close your account or American Express closes it itself, any remaining points you have will be forfeited. This is just one of the reasons we encourage all the key points and mileage enthusiasts to avoid points.

If AMEX determines that you are abusing membership reward points, such as selling them to others, they may limit or close your account.
What is an AMEX membership reward transfer partner?
American Express has 17 airlines and 3 hotel transfer partners. These partners include at least one useful option in each major aviation alliance: Celestial, Star Alliance and Oneworld.
You can transfer member reward points to the following airline programs:
It is important to note that Hawaiian Airlines was once a transfer partner but ended on June 30.

There are also three hotel transfer partner options:

How to transfer member rewards to partners
If you want to transfer membership rewards, you need an open and valid AMEX account. You can then link each transfer partner in each transfer partner in the Member Rewards account and transfer membership reward points in 1,000 increments with any partner you wish for, at least 1,000 points.

American Express offers transfer bonuses to select partners from time to time.
However, there are some important limitations to note:
- The transfer to a travel partner is irreversible, so make sure you are sure you can use these points before transferring.
- On your AMEX account and loyalty program account, the first and last names must be the same.
- You can only transfer points to your loyalty program account or the account of an authorized user on your card. However, the authorized user must be on your account for at least 90 days before being eligible for transfer.
- When you point Amex to the common flyer program in the United States, namely Delta Skymiles and JetBlue TrueBlue, you will be charged a federal GST offset. The 1,000 points per transfer is 60 cents (or 120 points) and the highest is $99 (or 19,800 points). However, you can avoid this fee by booking Delta flights with other partners like Virgin Atlantic.

Are the transfer membership reward points worth it?
With so many different options, it’s hard to decide when and where the membership reward points are transferred. The advantage about transferable points is that you can keep them in your AMEX account until you decide when and when to transfer them.
With the right redemption, your opinion will be more valuable than you use it for other redemptions, such as cash back or gift cards. At TPG, we always think that whether you are booking a dream trip or an annual family vacation, it is worth it to transfer your rewards.

For some inspiration, here are our five favorite transfer options:
- Book a top-notch flight to Japan with Virgin Atlantic Ocean: You can book a one-way flight to Japan from the West Coast of the United States at 52,500 points (Business Class) or 72,500 points (First Class)
- Book Oneworld Economic Flights with British Airways Avios: Many routes from the East Coast to Dublin can be booked in economy class by transferring your membership awards to British Airways. You can also take a short ride on 5,000 Avios on excursions outside North America.
- Round trips to Madrid on Iberia: Despite the recent depreciation, Iberia remains a solid best place for business-class flights from the Northeast of the United States to Spain, and when you book through the Iberian Club, Iberia is still only 40,050 miles on off-peak dates.
- Flying Singapore Airlines Advanced Courses by transferring membership rewards to Krisflyer: If you are taking a one-way flight between Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) and Sydney Airport (SYD), you can drive a top-notch suite on the Airbus A380. While Singapore no longer flies the A380 to the United States, you can still book first class at the carrier from New York to Frankfurt 777-300er. Sometimes you even see business-grade awards on certain routes included in the carrier’s spontaneous escape promotion.
- Transfer to Blue Flights to Europe and North Africa: Flying Blue is a joint loyalty program for Frand France and KLM. Flights to Europe start 20,000 miles in one-way in the economy, and 60,000 miles in one-way in Business Class. Also, be aware of the monthly promotional rewards for the program, with selected routes being discounted during last minute trips.

Bottom line
American Express Membership Rewards Points are the most valuable point on the market. This is mainly due to Amex’s extensive selection of airlines and hotel transfer partners.
There are many valuable ways to use them and the flexibility to decide when, when, where, how many points are transferred, which is one of the reasons why we highly value this reward currency.
