Brand and your career

Brand and your career
Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter
When you buy detergent laundry, have you ever stood in the aisle of the store, looking at the ingredients list, and saying to yourself, “Hmm. Will the relationship between chemicals make my washing much cleaner than this chemical? ”
Of course, not. You buy detergent because it’s cheap, you have coupons, you’ve seen commercials, or your mom and dad use a specific type of detergent, not based on the efficacy of a specific brand.
So, it’s an important reason why you’ve made decisions about why brands become why people make decisions and why they need to invest in building professional brands now. After all, people who succeed are not always the smartest or the hardest. . . Although these are great qualities. Sometimes, opportunities are within your company. Usually, they are external.
Now, of course I wouldn’t expect you to buy advertising funds to create your impression of being an expert, but I do believe you can invest in your career to create real estate in the minds of the people and be regarded as a subject matter expert.
- Have your own blog. Recruiters love finding thought leaders for their clients.
- Have a video that introduces your own expertise to a trading group or business group.
- Post videos on YouTube on publishing platform and share videos with your contacts multiple times.
- Once a month, write an article for LinkedIn. Use the above steps on LinkedIn.
- Share your videos and posts on Twitter and Facebook
- There are many podcasts looking for expert performances. Contact the host. Usually, there is an email address, or they can quote their LinkedIn profile on the show. Ask the host what they want to interview you. Most people will briefly introduce it to make you a potential guest. When your look goes live, put it in your blog like anything else and share it with your readers as well as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
- Become a speaker of your expertise. Doing the above projects will help you attend meetings and events nationwide. These organizations sell tickets based on the brand of the person to be displayed. You may not be entering the main stage for the first time, but you can develop over time and energy.
A few years ago, a friend of mine talked to me about his career plans for the next 10-15 years. As a low-level official at the regional bank, he knew he had to strengthen his curriculum in roles and organization.
“We want search companies to contact you, not the other way around. We have to position you as a thought leader and take you to the Speech Tour.”
Less than a year later, his first step was when he was in contact with executives in a large U.S. bank as vice president position. Part of his negotiations was to obtain permission to continue talking about the subject. “My success will rub you,” he told them, who survived several bank acquisitions and was eventually hired as a partner in one of a major consulting firm. During this time, his salary did not include bonuses, which increased seven times. His bonus doubled.
Most of us have heard the fables of three pigs, each building a house with different materials. Although the “big wolf” can blow the house down, he cannot demolish the pig’s house made of bricks.
Most people build careers made of inferior materials and then exacerbate this mistake by outsourcing their professional responsibilities to employers who focus (right) on them but are the successful employers of the business.
Knowing that you have a responsibility, do you think you should take a lazy way to put your career responsibilities on your employer, or look for your own career and build a solid brick career?
