Can you transfer AADVANTAGGH mileage in American Airlines?

You can earn American Airlines AADVANTAGY miles through several activities, such as flying with the U.S. or its partner airlines, shopping online through the Aadvantage Eshopping portal on a credit card that is a common brand of American Airlines.

As one of the world’s largest airlines, American Airlines offers a large network of domestic and international routes. It is also a member of the OneWorld Alliance with other airline partners, including Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Qantas and Cathay Pacific. Additionally, this is the only one among the “Big Three” American Airlines (US, Delta Airlines and United Airlines) to have not completely eliminated the published award rankings.

Although Aadvantage miles on long-haul flights on American Airlines may have poverty value due to dynamic pricing, partners’ redemption remains large.

Can you transfer Aadvantage miles?

Yes, there are several ways you can transfer points from a hotel or credit card plan to Aadvantage miles.

Hotel plan

Marriott Hotel’s points transfer rate to the United States Aadvantage is 30 million points to 1 Aadvantage Mile. However, unlike most Marriott transfer options, transfer points per 60,000 Marriott hotels won’t earn an additional 5,000 miles.

While you can also transfer the world of Hyatt Point and IHG to Aadvantage miles, the transfer rate is so poor that we do not recommend it.

Credit card point

One of the easier options to consider for earning US AAdvantage miles is through American Airlines’ credit card. Here are some of the best common options available:

Citi is the only major credit card issuer with American Airlines as a transfer partner. So having one of these transferable reward credit cards in your wallet could be a game changer for your perspective and mileage strategy.

Transfer to another member

You can transfer Aadvantage Miles online to any other Aadvantage member at 1,000 miles at $5 per 1,000 miles. This includes taxes, fees and discounts.

It is impossible to transfer Aadvantage miles to a credit card program or other airline loyalty program.

You can also book flights for others using Aadvantage miles in your account.

How to book an American Airlines flight without AADVANTAGGH miles

If you don’t have an Aadvantage mileage, you can still book flights from American Airlines in several different ways:

  • Book directly on the US website, but remember to pay with a credit card that earns reward miles for flight bookings.
  • Book flights in the United States through a credit card travel portal such as ChaseTravel℠ or Capital One Travel, both of which offer reward miles for ticket booking.
  • Book reward flights through partner airlines such as Alaska Airlines, which will sell American Airlines flights.
  • Redeem points and miles in partner airline programs like the British Airways Club. The program works with nearly all transferable credit card plans, so you have a wide variety of options to earn points that you can transfer to British Airways to book flights to American Airlines.

Bottom line

While there are only a few ways to transfer miles to your Aadvantage account, there are many ways to earn more miles, from using the right credit card to transfer rewards from another plan.

You can also book American Airlines flights through the airline’s partner airline or online travel portal, even if you don’t have any Aadvantage miles to earn additional rewards.
